Become a Singer and Performer

By Elizabeth Schohl

If you're a singer and you want to prepare yourself for a performance there are a few things that you can do that will help to make sure you have a pleasant show. First you''ll need to mentally prepare, your voice is your gift so that won't be faltered, but you'll need to prepare in your mind how you want your performance to go. Practice your lyrics and know them in and out.

It doesn't hurt to allow yourself a cheat sheet to help you remember words of a song for your upcoming performance on stage. You have to memorize those words of a song thoroughly, and ideally they should be locked in your mind. Keep drinking water to keep those vocal cords moist and ready to help you sing your best and fill you with self-assurance.

To build your performance skills you'll want to know how you sound when you sing. If you always sing with a band or an accompaniment tape you might be using the instruments to make your voice blend in with the music. The best way to get an impressive show is to work on a certain part that you might be having trouble with.

Fantastic singers often possess that special something that separates them from good, yet ordinary singers. They may have the special movements, or look that makes an audience really notice and remember them. Ask others like friends or family members what they think is special about you, and how you can make the most of it to impress your audience.

There are some things that you should avoid before a performance such as straining your voice by yelling or shouting loudly. Your vocal cords can only take so much abuse before they begin to crack and then they won't work when you need them to. No matter how good a singer you are, your voice still has limits.

Don't dare eat any spicy food or soda pop, as the last thing you need is a noisy burp or a backup of food in your throat! Please don't drink any form of alcohol, as it is bad for the vocal cords by dehydrating it. Instead, have some tea mixed with honey and lemon so that you soothe your vocal cords.

Many singers are very critical of themselves. No matter what type of positive talk or reviews performers might receive, a singer still might be overly critical of their latest performance. Many of the top singers are extra sensitive about the quality of their voice as they do not want to spoil their vocal cords with bad habits such as smoking or illness.

Keep in mind if you want to get some experience singing as performer, start in a karaoke bar or party where people you don't know make comments about your singing. Or you can start singing in church, where people might start to recognize you because of your singing. Many famous singers got their start in local theater productions and church performances. - 15465
